CPExpert Product Update 2001-1
|
This product update forwards updates to both software and documentation. The software
update is Release 11.1 of CPExpert. The release number indicates that
it is the first release of 2001.
This release (1) provides support for z/OS Release 1, (2) enhances the DB2 Component to
provide additional analysis of DB2 Data Sharing problems and potential problems,
(3) enhances the WLM Component, (4) provides updated documentation on CD, and (5)
corrects errors that have been reported.
- z/OS Release 1.
Z/OS Release 1 was made Generally Available (GA) by IBM in March 2001. Since Computer
Management Sciences is a Business Partner with IBM, I normally can provide support for
new releases of MVS within 30 days of GA of the new IBM release.
-
All CPExpert components have been updated to provide support for z/OS Release 1.
-
All CPExpert documentation has been updated with references to applicable z/OS
Release 1 documents from IBM.
Recall that all references in CPExpert documentation refer to IBM
documents contained in IBM BookManager format. I will be happy to
provide a cross-reference to hard-copy of IBM documents if any user
does not have access to IBM documents in BookManager format.
-
Enhance the DB2 Component.
The main changes to the DB2 Component for CPExpert Release 11.1 are to:
-
Enhance the discussion of alternatives that can solve DB2 Data Sharing performance
problems.
-
Provide the capability to analyze multiple DB2 subsystems in a single execution of CPExpert.
-
Provide the capability to specify guidance for individual DB2 subsystems (and guidance for
associated buffer pools and group buffer pools, if necessary) in a single execution of
CPExpert.
-
Update the DB2 Component as appropriate to support z/os Release 1.
-
Enchance the WLM Component.
The main changes to the WLM Component for CPExpert Release 11.1 are to:
-
Update the Component to support z/OS Release 1.
-
Added SYSOTHER analysis for MICS.
-
Enhanced the data shaping code to improve execution performance.
-
Created option to process all data in a performance data base with more than one sysplex. The new code optionally analyzes each sysplex in the performance data base.
-
Enhanced code to analyzed function-shipped transactions, analyzing the transactions
both on the originating and supporting system.
-
Added analysis of IMS subsystem delay states for transaction service classes (applicable only with IMS Version 5 and subsequent versions of IMS).
-
Added analysis of DB2 subsystem delay states for transaction service classes (applicable only with DB2 Version 6 and subsequent versions of DB2).
-
Changed analysis of whether log stream interim storage was efficiently used to report on both log stream and the coupling facility structure involved.
-
Eliminated report classes from server delay analysis (report classes can have server information reported in the SMF Type 72 Service Class Served Data Section, but all work units may not be servers).
-
Corrected code based on errors reported by users.
-
Correct errors that have been reported
.
I've added a new member titled
SOURCE(GENER102) which contains a listing of the errors that were discovered
in CPExpert code for Release 10.2, and an acknowledgment of the user who found
the error.
I really
appreciate calls from users reporting problems or simply asking questions.
As I said in the original delivery letter for CPExpert, if errors occur with your
installation, please don't waste your time trying to solve the error. Just give me
a call and I will quickly fix the problem!
Installation
I suggest that you use the following steps to install
Release 11.1:
-
Create a new PDS titled
"prefix.CPEXPERT.V111.SOURCE".
-
Create a new PDS titled
"prefix.CPEXPERT.V111.USOURCE".
-
Install CPExpert into the
"prefix.CPEXPERT.V111.SOURCE" using the normal
installation procedures described in the CPExpert Installation
Guide.
-
Copy your old
USOURCE members into "prefix.CPEXPERT.V111.USOURCE".
This step should be done so you do not have to recreate all of your unique
parameters. There are no changes to the variables in USOURCE members,
unless you are exercising new options provided with this code.
